In this artwork, I explored the concept of space by focusing on the balance between positive and negative space through the creation of a notan. A notan is a Japanese design concept that emphasizes the interaction between light and dark elements. I used a flower as my main subject because its natural symmetry made it easier to highlight both the positive (the shape of the flower) and negative (the background) spaces. Using Photoshop, I began with a symmetrical image to help create a balanced design, then manipulated it to enhance the contrast between black and white areas. My goal is for the audience to notice how both the filled and empty spaces work together to create the full picture, showing that what's left out is just as important as what's included.
